How to Obtain an Erasmus Program Visa?
When applying for Erasmus, it is necessary to obtain a long-term Schengen D-type visa instead of a standard tourist visa or a business visa. This type of visa is also referred to as a national visa. For the Schengen Erasmus visa, the visa application should be made to the Consulate of the country you wish to participate in the program at least 6 months before the program begins.
To apply for an Erasmus visa, you generally need those main documents:
-
Application Form: This is the form provided by the consulate or embassy of the country where you plan to pursue your Erasmus program. It requires you to fill in your personal details, information about your study program, and the intended duration of your stay.
-
Letter of Acceptance: This is a formal letter issued by the host university or institution that confirms your acceptance into the Erasmus program. It serves as proof that you have been selected for the program.
-
Proof of Financial Means: You need to provide evidence that you have sufficient financial resources to cover your living expenses during your Erasmus program. This can include bank statements, scholarships, or any other relevant financial documentation.
-
Travel Medical Insurance: It is essential to have valid travel medical insurance that covers you for the duration of your stay in the host country. The insurance should provide adequate coverage for medical expenses, accidents, and repatriation.
- Accommodation: As part of your Erasmus visa application, you may need to provide a document that demonstrates your place of accommodation. This can be in the form of:
-
Housing Confirmation from the Host University: If you will be residing in university-provided accommodation, you can obtain a housing confirmation letter from the host university or institution stating your assigned accommodation details.
-
Rental Agreement or Lease Contract: If you plan to rent a private apartment or house during your Erasmus program, you can submit a copy of the rental agreement or lease contract that clearly states your name, the property address, and the duration of your stay.
-
Hotel Reservation: If you will be staying in a hotel or other temporary accommodation, you can provide a confirmed hotel reservation or booking confirmation that indicates your name, the hotel details, and the dates of your stay.
The specific requirements regarding the document showing the place of accommodation may vary depending on the country and institution you are applying to. It is advisable to consult the consulate or embassy's official website or contact them directly for precise instructions on the acceptable form of documentation for your Erasmus visa application.

Document Regarding the Grant/Financial Aid from Your University in Turkey:
As part of your Erasmus visa application, you may be required to provide a document from your university in Turkey that verifies the grant or financial aid you will receive for your Erasmus program. This document serves as proof of your financial support during your stay abroad. The specific requirements and format of this document may vary depending on your university's policies and procedures.
To obtain this document, you should contact the Erasmus Office or International Relations Office at your university in Turkey. They will be able to provide you with the necessary paperwork, such as a letter or certificate, that confirms the grant or financial aid amount you will receive for your Erasmus program. This document should include details such as your name, student ID number, the amount of the grant, and the duration of the funding.
Make sure to check with your university's Erasmus Office or International Relations Office for their specific requirements and procedures for issuing such a document. They will guide you through the process and provide you with the necessary paperwork to include in your Erasmus visa application.
When you have prepared these documents for your application, you will likely face fewer issues when applying for the visa. The most important document is indeed the acceptance letter from the European university. It serves as proof of your admission to the Erasmus program and is crucial for your visa application.
Another important aspect is a letter from your family stating their commitment to cover your expenses during the Erasmus program in Europe. This letter, provided by our advisors, should be a short paragraph.
