Compulsory Insurance for Erasmus+ Program Study and Internship Mobility
Starting from the 2014-2015 academic year, all students participating in the ERASMUS+ Program are required to have Health Insurance that covers the medical treatments they will receive at healthcare institutions in the host country. In addition to that, Liability and Accident Insurance are mandatory for students participating in Internship Mobility.
The required health insurance is not travel health insurance. Travel health insurance does not cover your healthcare expenses in the country you are visiting!!

Health Insurance Coverage
The Higher Education Institution is responsible for informing the student that they need to obtain health insurance. Some consulates require Travel Health Insurance during the visa application process. Before applying for a visa, make sure to obtain this insurance to cover the internship period with a minimum coverage of 30,000.00 Euros.
Liability Insurance Coverage: Insurance coverage for damages that may be caused by the student at the workplace can be provided.
The Higher Education Institution is responsible for ensuring that the student has obtained liability insurance. The Training Agreement contains information on whether the insurance is provided by the host enterprise where the internship will take place. If the national legislation of the destination country does not require the host enterprise to provide such insurance, it cannot be imposed on the enterprise to obtain the insurance. If the host enterprise does not provide liability insurance, the student will be responsible for obtaining the insurance.
Accident Insurance Coverage: Insurance coverage for accidents that the student may encounter at the workplace can be provided.
The Higher Education Institution is responsible for ensuring that the student has obtained accident insurance. The Training Agreement contains information on whether the insurance is provided by the host enterprise where the internship will take place. If the national legislation of the destination country does not require the host enterprise to provide such insurance, it cannot be imposed on the enterprise to obtain the insurance. If the host enterprise does not provide accident insurance, the student will be responsible for obtaining the insurance.
You can obtain mandatory health insurance in two ways:
1) Health insurance through Social Security Institution (SGK) agreements with other countries:
Turkey has Social Security Agreements with certain countries. The content of these agreements may vary for each country. In countries with such agreements, children who are under the custody of working or retired parents in Turkey can benefit from health insurance coverage in the country they are studying in without any deduction in their SGK rights. In order for the student to benefit from this right, they need to obtain a document with a specific code from SGK for each country. You can click here for the list of countries with SGK agreements. (You can contact SGK to determine whether the health insurance is covered by the SGK agreements with these countries.)
To learn about the procedure for benefiting from health insurance, please contact the SGK branch you are affiliated with. The consulates of the country you are visiting can also provide information about the required documents.
2) Private health insurance:
-If there is no Social Security Agreement in place for the country you are visiting, you are required to obtain health insurance that covers the entire duration of your stay and provides coverage for your healthcare expenses abroad. You must obtain a health insurance policy that will cover your healthcare expenses abroad for the entire duration of your stay. You should submit a copy of your insurance policy to the Erasmus Office.

Besides the insurance company provided as an example above, it is possible that other companies may also offer this insurance with possibly more favorable conditions. By conducting research for the country you will be visiting, you can obtain your health insurance online in accordance with the required rules. Daily insurance rates vary for each country, but on average, they range between Euro 1.40 and Euro 1.94.
